Learning a new language: make it enjoyable!

While I was doing some printing ,my son who was 3 years old at that time was counting the sheets that I had already printed. Suddenly, he came to me to get my attention: "Look mommy, look at me!" and he started jumping and counting very fast ... he found this game that he just created so funny! ... then he counted in French. At this time, he wasn't able to count above 10. "Mommy look ... un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, huit, neuf, dix" and laughed loudly and added: "Your turn now!" ... well, I accepted to play this game with him planning to take advantage of this moment to teach him to count above ten. So, I jumped and counted until 11 and I said "your turn" ... then until 12 ... etc increasing the numbers. My son was so excited with this new game. You know how children are ... they don't need a lot of things to have some fun!

Thanks to this little game, my son is able to count to 20 in French. I made the learning process enjoyable. Do you think that he was aware that I was teaching him something? No. He just wanted to have some fun with his mommy. We teach young children songs, stories, music ... because it's easier for them to learn and memorize that way.

As an adult, you need to make your learning process enjoyable ... don't use a method that is boring and frustrating to you because you are going to make your learning experience very difficult ... and you will get discouraged very soon. Add some fun while learning!

Learning a new language?
So my first language is english and my second is french. My background is italian. Both of my parents are fluent italian speakers. But I wasn't taught how to speak it. When I hear my mother speak to my grandmother I understand completely everything. I hear it everyday. But I want to have the ability to talk to my grandmother since she speaks no english at all. So I pretty much know very many words. But when I try to speak it, it sounds very off and sounds horrible. My biggest problem is rolling my R's. And telling masculine from feminine. And I also don't know where to start? I want to learn as soon as possible. I heard that the younger you are the easier it is to learn a language. I'm 14 I want to have the ability to speak fluent.Anyways, tyvm. And I'm also a really good reader in italian.
