If You are watching TV in a foreign language but you don't understand ...
Keep watching ... don't stop watching TV even if you don't understand ... Even if you know the vocabulary, your ears need to be used with the accent too ... When I first came in America, I knew the British English but I didn't understand anything on the phone or on TV because American people are less articulate than the British, they don't take the time to talk properly. But I keep trying to understand ... I watched different TV shows with different people accents (The accent from New York is different from the accent from people from the South for example) ... I did the same with my Spanish ... I have been taught the Spanish from Spain so it took me a little while to be be familiar with accent from people from Mexico. You are not going to understand the first time but don't be discouraged you have to keep watching. Your brain need time to process ... When you watch a DVD, watch it in the language you wish to learn and put the subtitle in your native language. You can do that at the beginning to help you ... after a while, you won't need to do it.It's a learning process.
