Your brain is divided in two parts called: left hemisphere and right hemisphere.
In general the left and right hemispheres of your brain process information in different ways.
Look at the following illustration:
Look at the chart and say the color not the word
YELLOW BLUE ORANGE
BLACK RED GREEN
PURPLE YELLOW RED
ORANGE GREEN BLACK
BLUE RED PURPLE
GREEN BLUE ORANGE
Hard isn't it? Your right brain tries to say the color but your left brain insists on reading the words. So there is a conflict between both and them, this conflict slows you down.
This color chart above was just an example among a lot to show you how difficult it is for the brain to process an information when the 2 hemispheres are in conflict.
We have two categories of people: the right brained and the left brained. The right brained process information using mostly the right brain of his brain and the left-brained process information using mostly the left side.
We tend to process information using our dominant side. However, the learning and thinking process is enhanced when both side of the brain are involved in a balanced manner.
A few years ago, I used a technology to learn English (I like to try different methods) in addition with the "conventional" methods (Cds, books, softwares etc.). The purpose of this technology was to use both the left and right hemisphere of the brain, in order to make the learning process more effective ... I don't remember the name of the European company that sold me the method... The method was a series of audio-tapes and books. I had to listen to the tapes with an helmet, and a mask, both plugged to a special unit .... ( It was a combination of light and sounds ... relaxing musics, certainly to stimulate the brainwaves, were playing in the background of the lessons).
I am unable to explain the technology very accurately, but I did notice, when I was using it, a lot of quick improvement in my learning process. I was satisfied with the technology because I was learning without stress so I was able to learn and memorize better and I was happy with the idea that this method was using the left and right hemisphere of my brain.
I know that I use more the left side of my brain. If you don't have a clue about your dominant side. Click here for a test.
